Community College Planned In Springfield
A community college could be coming to Springfield and Robertson County, according to County Mayor Howard Bradley.
A 5.43 acre site is being offered by W. A. Batson on Batson Parkway in Springfield in a joint effort with Springfield, Robertson County, and Northcrest Medical Center.
If the project comes together as envisioned, a $6 million, 30,000 square foot facility will offer classes by Austin Peay State University and Volunteer State Community College, leading to both associates and bachelors degrees, Bradley said.
A joint meeting of Robertson County's Budget, Education, and Building and Grounds Committees met May 3 to discuss the proposed location for the Robertson County Higher Education Facility. "Those three committees met and were very impressed with the site," Bradley said. "Northcrest has engaged architects to do drawings of the building for future reference. City, county, and hospital officials are currently addressing the make up of a foundation board for the college." He expects to have a resolution ready for the county commission by their June meeting.
