Huge Crowd Attends Wal-Mart Opening

Hundreds of people braved wind, rain, and cold weather to be the first to shop at White House's new Wal-Mart Friday, March 7.  Folks grabbed shopping carts and lined up out the door waiting for the ribbon cutting and grand opening ceremonies to finish so they could begin shopping at the new super store.

Paint N' Paper Shoppe Introduces Innovative Color Program

The Paint N' Paper Shoppe, owned by Mike Wagahoff, recently introduced Porter Paint's new Voice of Color paint and color design system, driven by an innovative color anlysis tool that connects an individual's personality, style and interests with a personal color palette that helps consumers achieve color-perfect decorating.

The Voice of Color is built on th premise that every color has an emotional association, and individuals are drawn to different colors for reasons inherently tied to their unique personalities.  Individuals identitfy preferences through images, emotional words, metaphors, and their senses.  These methods tap into mental drivers, such as memories and personal experiences, that form a psychological make-up.

Porter Paints' Voice of Color program creates a conscious association between color selection, personality, and self-expression that empowers consumers to make relevant and meaningful color choices based on their needs, feelings, and preferences.

Orlinda Barbecue Team Signs New Sponsors

The Porkenstein Barbecue Team announced today that the Monteagle Inn has signed a sponsorship package deal for two of the largest competitions the team will enter in 2008.

The Porkenstein Barbecue Team completed their first full season in the "backyard" division in 2006. They had a very successful year getting awards in 5 of the 6 events and winning two Grand Championships. In 2007 they moved up to the KCBS "pro" division consistantly improving their finishes in each event. In 2008 the team plans on competing in 7 events around middle Tennessee.

"We are very excited to have such a prestigious Bed and Breakfast Retreat Center sign to become a spotlight sponsor for two of our biggest events for 2008." said Rick Tatum, Porkenstein team captain. "The Monteagle Inn is committed to the same ideals our team is – a quality experience second to none". "When you look at the Monteagle Inn core customer and the demographics of the typical barbecue competition fan, it’s a perfect match. Attendees at the barbecue events are lovers of the outdoors, fine gourmet cooking and unique experiences all of which they can experience at the Monteagle Inn."

Monteagle Inn was created in 1997 utilizing a prominent four bedroom brick home built in the 1940s which was expanded to create a wonderful 13 bedroom Bed & Breakfast and Retreat Center. Monteagle Inn sits in the center of town within walking distance of the unique shops, cafes and galleries. Jim Harmon, Proprietor of the Monteagle Inn, shares in the excitement over the new partnership. His decision to sponsor the team had to do with the things they have in common such as hospitality and making people feel good. "We both provide a product which puts a smile on peoples faces and exceeds their expectations. We are honored and proud to be the sponsor for Porkenstein".

NorthCrestMedical Center to go Tobacco-Free

NorthCrest Medical Center, the community’s healthcare leader, will be moving to a tobacco-free campus effective June 1, 2008. As of this date no tobacco use of any kind will be permitted inside or outside of any NorthCrest facility. This initiative also will include the elimination of designated areas outside our facilities where employees, patients and visitors currently use tobacco products.

According to the American Cancer Society, tobacco use accounts for about one – third of all cancer deaths in the United States. Smoking causes about 87% of lung cancer deaths. Smoking also causes cancers of the larynx (voice box), mouth, pharynx (throat), esophagus (swallowing tube), and bladder. It also contributes to the development of cancers of the pancreas, cervix, kidney, and stomach. In addition smoking is linked to the development of some types of leukemia. Cigars, pipes, and all types of smokeless tobacco cause cancers, too. There is no safe way to use tobacco.

Cigarette smokers die younger than non-smokers. In fact, according to a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) conducted in the late 1990s, smoking shortened male smokers' lives by 13.2 years and female smokers' lives by 14.5 years. Men and women who smoke are much more likely to die during middle age (between the ages of 35 and 69) than those who have never smoked.

"We believe the health of our patients, visitors, employees and all others affiliated with NorthCrest is of the utmost importance," said Scott Raynes, President and CEO of NorthCrest Medical Center. "Given the data that supports the ramifications of tobacco use and second hand smoke, it makes sense that the community’s healthcare leader would do just that, lead by becoming tobacco free."

NorthCrest will be providing additional communication in the near future. NorthCrest would also like to thank the community in advance for its cooperation, understanding and support on this important health issue.

Active Adult, Village Style Living Introduced in White House

Brookside Village, an active adult community for people over 50, will be introduced to White House in the next 45 days.

Brookside Village employs the latest concepts in true "Village" style Living. Here the Pedestrian and Vehicular Activity are separated for enhanced aesthetics and safety benefits.

Up to 90% of the Homes are oriented with the front of the Home, with their "Sitting porch," towards a "Greenway" with a meandering walking path connecting to over 1 mile of walking trails. The two car garages are to the rear of the homes on a private drive to separate the vehicle activity from the people activity.

Brookside Village will be a gated community, with beautiful grounds, water features, excellent and convenient location – two blocks from the new Super Walmart and 2 minutes from I65 at Exit 108, makes this village a unique addition to White House.

In an article in the Tennessean this fall, titled "Aging boomers' housing needs go unfilled," it states, "the demand from retirees, (shows that) the market’s already started up the curve, and it’s going to crest in 2007, 2008, 2009," said Edsel Charles of Market Graphics, a Brentwood-based real estate research firm…we won’t have them ready by 2007." In Middle Tennessee, Charles estimates, demand for homes geared to people 55 and older will more than triple in the next three years, from about 400 a year today to more than 1,500 a year.

Already people age 55 and older represent one of the fastest-growing and biggest groups of home buyers, accounting for almost one –fifth of the 1.1 million new homes sold in the U.S. in 2003, according to the National Association of Home Builders. The association further estimates that the number of Americans 50 and older will reach 100 million by 2010.

According to the Developers of Brookside Village, these energy efficient patio homes will save their homeowners, money every month. When you find out the realcost of ownership of these homes, compared to your existing home, and when you see that the size of these homes include just about all of the real space, owners currently use, Brookside will be worth comparing.

If you have considered downsizing, while maintaining areas of your home you constantly use, you might want to look into Brookside Village.
